As of yesterday afternoon, the entire above grade structure has been completely demoed.

Next week they will continue to perform demolition of below grade structures as well as continue to sort and separate debris. They also plan to start moving construction and demo debris off site early next week.

The Wisconsin DNR made a site visit 2/1/2024 and had no complaints.

Mass demo of the building to start on Monday.

The MRD Group will be mobilized two more pieces of equipment to the job-site today. Their demo crew will arrive on site Monday morning, January 22, to familiarize themselves with the building and then start mass demo of the building.

The demolition of the building is estimated to last about two months. Following the demolition, concrete crushing will take place on-site, anticipated to span 3-5 working days. The entirety of the demolition work is projected to conclude by the end of March 2024.

The elimination of asbestos and contaminated materials has concluded. Certified asbestos workers from Wisconsin managed all asbestos-contaminated substances within fully enclosed containment areas, employing 3-stage negative air machines to prevent any potential release of contaminated air. These materials were moistened and hermetically sealed in two layers of 6 mil polyethylene before being extracted through a two-stage removal process. Any materials visible outside the structure are non-contaminated soft demolition materials. This phase underwent supervision and evaluation by the Village's demolition consultant (CBS Squared, Inc) and environmental consultant (CESA 10). The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources conducted inspections throughout the asbestos removal process, including a final check to confirm the removal of all contaminated materials.

The demolition of the building is set to start in mid to late January and is estimated to last about two months. Following the demolition, concrete crushing will take place on-site, anticipated to span 3-5 working days. The entirety of the demolition work is projected to conclude by the end of March 2024.

Work on the old junior high demolition continues. There are a couple of larger holes in the building now and some piles of demo material. Any material you are seeing outside the building is noncontaminated soft demo material.

All asbestos-contaminated material is being wetted down and sealed airtight in two layers of 6 mil poly. The contaminated material is then removed through a two-stage haul-out process.

All asbestos-contaminated material is being handled by Wisconsin-certified asbestos workers inside full containment utilizing 3-stage negative air machines to avoid any possible contaminated air emissions outside of the containment.

I’m happy to share that the Village Board approved a bid for $481,470 last night from The MRD Group, Inc out of Milwaukee for demolition of the Old Junior High building. The Board also approved $25,000 to have non-contaminated materials crushed on-site, which will be a cost savings to having it trucked and crushed off-site. We have requested that the contractor keep neighboring homeowners updated on timelines and plans for demolition, and we will be also communicating with the general public via our Facebook page and website. We hope to have more information in the coming days of when demolition will begin and the project timelines.

We also received a $150,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to go towards the demolition costs.

I’d like to commend my fellow board members, both past and present, for taking on this project. This property has been an eyesore and drain on our community for far too long. This proactive and empowering approach will provide us some control into the development of the property; allowing us to decide what happens with that property in the future, how best to integrate it back into the neighborhood, and eventually recover our investment.

Congratulations, Ellsworth!
